Exploring downtown Jennings one day we realized some of the stop signs were inside these giant pots filled with flowers!! They’re so beautiful and completely change the look of the streets! Then we found out that the Jennings Garden Club is responsible. Thank you so much for adding more beauty to the street of Jennings!

They also have Sweet Shop USA truffles inside that look so delectable with flavors like Italian Cream Cake. Fearless Finds: Sam Stokes Nursery  0

Sam Stokes Nursery in Forest Hill, Louisiana | bonveillercher.com

I’m obsessed with flowers, so I am always so excited for our annual trip to the Forest Hill Nursery Festival each March. This was our third year going, but the festival is celebrating its 30th year. It’s a fundraiser for the firefighters of Forest Hill and along with all the beautiful nurseries in town there is a carnival, arts and crafts, food vendors, raffles, and much more!Sam Stokes Nursery in Forest Hill, Louisiana | bonveillercher.com

Sam Stokes Nursery in Forest Hill, Louisiana | bonveillercher.comOur first and favorite stop though is always Sam Stokes Nursery at 3347 Highway 112. We seem to always fill the back of my vehicle with vegetable plants and flowers. They have a great selection to choose from including seeds, baskets, fruit trees, rose bushes, and every kind of flower you can think of.

The staff is always very helpful and accommodating. This year I had the pleasure of meeting the owners’ daughter, Dana Stokes Lyles. She was very sweet, and you can see her in the picture ringing up our second rouSam Stokes Nursery in Forest Hill, Louisiana | bonveillercher.comnd of purchases for the day.

This nursery is beautiful, and they have so much to choose from that I always have a hard time making my mind up. I do try to get something a little different each year, and this year it was daylilies! I couldn’t wait to get home and start filling up my flower pots with this year’s haul of flowers and plants. I even gave a few to my mother who was also excited for the additions to her porch.

Once we left Sam Stokes Nursery, we made a few other stops before wrapping up with buying me a Forest Hill Nursery Festival t-shirt. Then with our car full of plants we headed home. Till next year – can’t wait!!

Fearless Finds: Grandma’s Garden Flower and Gift Shop  0

Fearless Finds: Grandma's Garden Flower and Gift Shop -- Locally owned and operated flower shop in Welsh, Louisiana, with a wide range of flowers and gifts. | bonveillercher.com
What woman doesn’t hope for a bouquet of fresh flowers on Valentine’s Day? I sure do! Actually what am I saying? I hope for flowers all the time! They are a timeless gift and perfect for every occasion. But Valentine’s Day might be the holiday most-known for flowers, so the ladies (and a few gentlemen) of Grandma’s Garden Flower and Gift Shop in Welsh, Louisiana, are hard at work preparing. Fortunately, they let us take a peek behind the scenes, and the owner, Roylynne Harris, shared her story about the shop’s humble beginnings.

The origin of the name alone gives me goosebumps. Roylynne told us that before her grandma passed Roylynne would go each Sunday after church to her grandma’s house for a home-cooked meal and a visit. Before she would leave her grandma would send her to the garden, clippers in hand, and tell her to cut whatever she wanted. Her grandma would then wrap the flowers in a paper towel for the long drive home where Roylynne would then arrange them in mason jars and vases. “I always said if I ever had a flower shop I would name it Grandma’s Garden because that’s where I found my love for flowers,” Roylynne explained. Nine years ago she made true that promise and started Grandma’s Garden out of her home.

Before Interstate 10, 90 was the main road to travel, and as a gas station the building hosted Elvis and the infamous Bonnie and Clyde. Nowadays the building is filled with flowers and all sorts of gifts, including Tyler candles. I actually fell in love with this beautiful pillow embroidered with Louisiana spelled out in cypress trees.
As for the flowers, Grandma’s Garden has a widespread customer base and delivers anywhere from Kinder to Jennings to Gueydan starting at $5. Flowers arrive daily from Beaumont and Lafayette, and they take both walk-ins and phone orders. Their services also include weddings, funerals, Homecoming and other events.

We really enjoyed meeting Roylynne and her crew at Grandma’s Garden and getting to see the inner workings of a flower shop! Please pay them a visit the next time you’re in need of a gift, and they’d love to help you find something perfect.
